If my roof is damaged, can I carry out the repair work myself?

Yes, with scaffolding, or a properly secured ladder, pushing in a slipped tile is doable. However we would always suggest getting a local roofing company to check your roof as there might be reasons behind why it has been misplaced, such as rotten battens, corroded nails etc. So an expert eye can diagnose this quickly to prevent further issues and needing scaffolding again, which can be a large part of the expense.

More FAQs

What are the key things to consider when looking for a new roof or have roof repairs done on your property. We have tried to answer as many questions as we can about what we do.

What are roof shingles?

Roof Shingles are a roof covering which are flat, rectangular pieces of shapes of, usually felt, bitumen, composite, or other roofing material. They are applied from the base of the roof upwards and often overlap to provide full coverage.

Can you repair roof shingles?

Yes!! if your roof needs just a few shingles replaced or a few minor patches made, we can make those small repairs for you. However, if you need anything more than half of your roof repaired, it's in your best interest to simply re-roof your entire property.

How much does roof repair cost?

Roof repair costs can vary depending on the type of issues and problems that we find when inspecting the roof. Once we have inspected the are and made notes of any issues only then can we accurately assess how much a project or repair job will cost. This will be a basic cost for only what needs to be done to keep your property safe and secure with no hidden extras. In the case of emergency repairs, where there is a danger or leak, we will obviously secure the area to ensure that the damage does not expand further or pose a risk to others.

Do I need to have scaffolding for my roof repairs

In some cases, access can be gained from a ladder to save the expense of a scaffold. But we work safely and will use scaffolding when needed.

What sort of detailing can be done to a roof

Roof detailing is a hugely popular way of creating and personalising your home. Just some of the ways Henleaze Roofing can offer decorate finishing are below:

  • Wood grain effect fascia boards and cladding
  • Cast iron effect guttering and downpipes in various finishes and colour options
  • Patterned leadwork (something we specialise in) we ‘dress’ lead in rather than welding as the latter can cause weak spots and future splitting/leaks.
  • Adding decorative ridge tiles (ridge dragons/gargoyles), finials.
  • Snow guards

How long does it take to repair or replace a roof?

Repairs can be achieved in just a few hours

A total roof replacement for an average 3 bed house can be appropriately two weeks.

If my roof is leaking, do I need a full roof replacement?

No not necessarily, we will only recommend doing work that is necessary. We will diagnose where the leak is coming from and will treat that as cost effectively as possible. If a there are larger problem we will of course advise you if a new roof is required. This tends to be if the felt is degraded, there are untreated roofing battens which have rotted or low quality porous tiles are no longer a protective primary barrier.

Will a flat roof allow rain to run off it?

We specialise in flat roof repair or re roofs in lead only, as fibreglass or plastic options will inevitably leak due to sun damage. This causes the material to warp, become brittle and split in a short amount of time. Lead is a quality material that expands and contracts with the weather/temperature changes, and when properly installed in sections, with the appropriate thickness of lead (which we call code 4 or 5) you can expect it to last upto 80 years, maintenance free.

How long can I expect my roof to last?

On average a new roof can last up to 40 years

What options are available if I need to reroof?

If tiles are in good condition, but the felt and battens need replacing, we can do a re-lay, by refitting the tiles on top of new breathable felt and treated battens. Saving the cost of new tiles and disposing of the old ones.

If new tiles are required, there are options in terms of tiles or slates and also styles/sizes/colours etc
